50+ Rubyists to Follow on Twitter

by Satish Talim on October 29, 2008

Hi and thanks for the visit. If you're new here you may want to subscribe to my feed.

The response to an earlier post “Famous Ruby Personalities: Who do you recommend?” was very encouraging and many wrote in asking for the Twitter profiles of these Famous Ruby Personalities and other Ruby developers and bloggers.

But What’s Twitter?

Twitter

The New York Times says:

Twitter is a simple messaging service that you’ve either heard about a lot or not at all. Either way, it’s a fun and useful tool, well worth trying if you want to reach potential and existing customers, employees or employers.

Rubyists’ List

Victor Goff, Jerry Anning and Willian Molinari of RubyLearning along with Gaveen and Josh Nichols (both Twitter contacts) have painstakingly compiled this list of over 50 Rubyists, in alphabetical order, with a link to their Twitter profile. I like Jason Fried, but he’s not really known for being a Ruby personality.

For the 2nd list, you can get the numbers starting at 54. with:

<ol start="54">

Neat, I think.

Some suggestions:

* Marc-Andre Cournoyer – http://twitter.com/macournoyer (of Thin fame)
* GitHub Guys – http://twitter.com/chacon (mojombo and defunkt are already there)
* Sur – http://twitter.com/sur (Aug 07 Rails Hackfest Winner)

mattetti = Matt Aimonetti
mojombo = Tom Preston-Werner
pjhyett = PJ Hyett
lrz = Laurent Sansonetti
collintmiller = Collin T Miller
auxesis = Lindsay Holmwood
macournoyer = Marc-Andre Cournoyer
jamesgolick = James Golick

Too many more to mention… if you can stand any more traffic, definitely make sure you see their replies to people you’re not following… you can see interesting conversations from interesting people that way too.

Christian Guimaraes you are right. There were so many twitters today from Ruby Masters, mentioning a quick rise in the number of their followers. In a lighter vein, we need to avoid talking about drinks and profanity – there are so many people observing us now!

Oooh.. a popularity contest. The ruby/rails community loves these.

You should be TATFT rather than following folks on twitter… :P

Dr Nic – The <ol start= > is deprecated and I have not used the same. One way to do that would be this way – http://www.arraystudio.com/as-workshop/make-ol-list-start-from-number-different-than-1-using-css.html
