50+ Rubyists to Follow on Twitter

by Satish Talim on October 29, 2008 · 27 comments

The response to an earlier post “Famous Ruby Personalities: Who do you recommend?” was very encouraging and many wrote in asking for the Twitter profiles of these Famous Ruby Personalities and other Ruby developers and bloggers.

But What’s Twitter?

Twitter

The New York Times says:

Twitter is a simple messaging service that you’ve either heard about a lot or not at all. Either way, it’s a fun and useful tool, well worth trying if you want to reach potential and existing customers, employees or employers.

Rubyists’ List

Victor Goff, Jerry Anning and Willian Molinari of RubyLearning along with Gaveen and Josh Nichols (both Twitter contacts) have painstakingly compiled this list of over 50 Rubyists, in alphabetical order, with a link to their Twitter profile. For DHH, your link is correct (d2h), but the link text says ‘DHH’.

3 Satish Talim 10.29.08 at 7:32 am

Dr Nic - Thanks for pointing that out - now corrected.

4 Don Brown 10.29.08 at 9:01 am

ivey == Michael Ivey

5 Evan Phoenix 10.29.08 at 9:11 am

_evan == Evan Weaver, not Evan Phoenix
evanphx == Evan Phoenix

6 Satish Talim 10.29.08 at 9:23 am

Evan Phoenix - Thanks Evan for pointing that out - now corrected.

7 dan croak 10.29.08 at 10:13 am

jon yurek (paperclip)
joe ferris (factory girl)

8 Mike 10.29.08 at 11:12 am

I like Jason Fried, but he’s not really known for being a Ruby personality.

9 Dr Nic 10.29.08 at 11:17 am

For the 2nd list, you can get the numbers starting at 54. with:

<ol start="54">

Neat, I think.

10 Gaveen 10.29.08 at 11:25 am

Some suggestions:

* Marc-Andre Cournoyer - http://twitter.com/macournoyer (of Thin fame)
* GitHub Guys - http://twitter.com/chacon (mojombo and defunkt are already there)
* Sur - http://twitter.com/sur (Aug 07 Rails Hackfest Winner)

11 Matt Todd 10.29.08 at 11:39 am

mattetti = Matt Aimonetti
mojombo = Tom Preston-Werner
pjhyett = PJ Hyett
lrz = Laurent Sansonetti
collintmiller = Collin T Miller
auxesis = Lindsay Holmwood
macournoyer = Marc-Andre Cournoyer
jamesgolick = James Golick
john_lam = John Lam
aeden = Anthony Eden
lof = Luke Francl
jnewland = Jesse Newland

Too many more to mention… if you can stand any more traffic, definitely make sure you see their replies to people you’re not following… you can see interesting conversations from interesting people that way too.

12 Fabio Cevasco 10.29.08 at 12:50 pm

Thanks for mentioning me, that was flattering! :-)
I think you missed out a big one though: Antonio Cangiano (acangiano), of “Zen and The Art of Programming” (http://antoniocangiano.com/)

13 Amanda 10.29.08 at 4:40 pm
14 Willian Molinari 10.29.08 at 4:53 pm

Æ!!

I tried to help with some usernames too! =)

Thanks for the useful post! =)

Cheers,

Willlian Molinari

15 Christian Guimaraes 10.29.08 at 5:26 pm

Satish, thanks for the recognition…

this make me work harder, even more. Stay in touch. News soon.

Christian.

16 Satish Talim 10.29.08 at 5:50 pm

Christian Guimaraes you are right. There were so many twitters today from Ruby Masters, mentioning a quick rise in the number of their followers. In a lighter vein, we need to avoid talking about drinks and profanity - there are so many people observing us now!

17 Emilio Tagua 10.29.08 at 6:43 pm
18 Aaron Worsham 10.29.08 at 7:16 pm

Satish,
I’d recommend Joe O’Brien (objo)

19 bryanl 10.29.08 at 7:23 pm

Oooh.. a popularity contest. The ruby/rails community loves these.

You should be TATFT rather than following folks on twitter… :P

20 Peter Cooper 10.29.08 at 11:06 pm

Not “Rubyists” per-se, but should still be of interest:

http://twitter.com/rubyinside
http://twitter.com/rubyflow

21 Satish Talim 10.30.08 at 4:35 am

Dr Nic - The <ol start= > is deprecated and I have not used the same. One way to do that would be this way - http://www.arraystudio.com/as-workshop/make-ol-list-start-from-number-different-than-1-using-css.html

22 Sur 10.31.08 at 4:37 pm

Pratik - lifo
He is a Ruby On Rails core team member.

23 Martin Labuschin 11.18.08 at 4:27 am

http://twitter.com/rails_bookmarks is a great rails link resource bases on http://labuschin.com/rails
